12th Australian Fleece Competition - Bendigo 2012
General Information
The Australian Sheep & Wool Show 2012, incorporating the 12th Australian Fleece Competition will be held in Bendigo from 20th - 22nd July 2012.
The Fleece Competition objectives are:
- To conduct a commercial fleece competition utilising current technology to assist both the objective and subjective measurement criteria.
- To conduct a fleece competition which provides educational outcomes to competitors, woolgrowers and the industry at large.
- To conduct a fleece competition encompassing all main wool types.
All fleeces are weighed, sampled and tested using AWTA Ltd procedures which are based on IWTO test methods.
Charity
Each year many competitors generously donate their fleeces to a charity that has been nominated by the Competition Committee. A different charity is selected each year. Following the competition, donated fleeces are pressed up into bales which are then sold at auction and the proceeds donated to the nominated charity.
The charity nominated for the 2012 competition is Epilepsy Australia, a support agency for those living with Epilepsy.
