The final TEAM-3 report, published in May 2004, was presented to the IWTO Conference in Shanghai in November 2005. This was the culmination of a co-operative effort, which commenced in May 2001, funded by AWTA Ltd and involving Topmakers and Mills around the world.

The TEAM-3 trial was essentially a repeat of the original TEAM Trials conducted during the 1980's. It had two objectives:

1. Update the TEAM Formulae to account for improvements in combing performance post TEAM-1 & TEAM-2
2. To evaluate whether or not the formulae could be improved by incorporating new measurements that had since become available.

The conduct of the TEAM-3 trial, whilst it ensured close consultation between AWTA Ltd and the commercial participants, also involved close consultation between AWTA Ltd and the rest of the wool industry via IWTO. A series of reports were presented to IWTO throughout the trial, to ensure the industry was fully briefed at all times.
