Ian Ashman
General Manager Customer Relations

Ian is a graduate of Monash University, and holds a BSc(Chemistry) and a Graduate Diploma in Business (Management) .
Ian joined AWTA Ltd in 1985, as Technical Controller in the Melbourne Laboratory. In 1987 he was promoted to the newly formed position of Additional Measurement Controller, where he was responsible for the laboratory's implementation of the then new service certifying Staple Length & Strength. In 1988 Ian became the Technical Manager for Victoria/Tasmania, a position he held until 1997. He was then transferred to Sydney where he became Sampling Operations Manager - NSW. Towards the end of 1998 he was promoted to the position of Regional Manager - WA and assumed responsibility for overseas liaison in China, Korea, Japan, Taiwan and Hong Kong.
Consequent to a restructuring of the Company's management in 2001, Ian was promoted to a new position, General Manager Customer Relations, taking this up on 2nd April, 2001. He is based at AWTA Ltd's Head Office in Kensington, Victoria. In this position he is accountable for all raw wool sampling operations and management of customer relations. He reports directly to the Managing Director.
Ian is also a member of the Australia China Business Council (Vic Branch) Executive Committee.
He is directly accountable for the implementation of TOPMARK.

Andrew Lindsay
Sampling Operations Manager NSW/QLD |
Andrew has always had an association with the Sheep and Wool Industry. He grew up on a Merino Stud in central western NSW, and graduated from the School of Wool and Pastoral Science with a B.Sc. (Hons) degree from the University of NSW in 1994. On completion of his degree, AWTA LTD employed Andrew as a Research Officer within the R&D Division in Sydney. During this time Andrew was heavily involved in the development of the colour standard as well as early research into the measurement of fibre diameter using OFDA. During his time in R&D, Andrew completed a Masters, also through the School of Wool and Pastoral Science.
In 1997, Andrew was promoted to the position of Technical Manager in the Sydney Laboratory and, in 1998, was appointed to his current position, Sampling Operations Manager. Andrew is responsible for the supervision and conduct of sampling operations at wool stores throughout NSW and QLD. Four (4) Sampling Controllers report to Andrew. They are based in Sydney, Goulburn, Newcastle and Brisbane and, together, they supervise approximately 50 Sampling Officers.
As part of his role Andrew is responsible for liaison activities associated with TOPMARK.

David Crowe
Senior Research Officer |
David commenced with AWTA Ltd in February 1999, as a Senior Research Officer, and has been involved in various research projects including colour measurement calibration, Laserscan calibration and water Laserscan and crimp frequency measurement.
David graduated with a BSC (Wool and Pastoral Sciences) in 1987 and commenced working at the CSIRO Division of Wool Technology (Ryde) in December 1987. He remained at the divisions Ryde Laboratory until its closure in 1996 and was involved in wool measurement research including fibre diameter, staple length and staple strength and style. Early stage processing research for Sale lots and style characteristics (Crimp frequency and Crimp Definition and Tip Weathering)
With the closure of Ryde in 1996 David set-up a consultancy business and for 2.5 years was principal of DWC Wool Industry Services. During this period David worked as a wool classing instructor and early stage processing lecturer for WRIST Centre Incorporated courses. Other roles included conducting an industry Quality Assurance survey for AWEX. David also undertook a review of In-Shed Sampling methods for core tests and additional measurements for the Woolmark Company and provided advice to wool grower clients on sheep selection, clip preparation and marketing issues.
