APPLICATION

:

This method is applicable to textile fabrics which have a raised fibre surface, ie napped, pile, tufted, flocked or similar surface.

PRINCIPLE

:

A dry specimen of the fabric being tested is supported on a vertical plate and its raised or napped surface is ignited near the top in a standard manner. The spread of flame downwards on the surface of the fabric to a reference line is timed.

SAMPLES REQUIRED FOR TESTING

:

Sufficient to cut 8 specimens, each 150mm x 75mm.

INTERPRETATION

:

AS 1249 - Children's Nightclothes Having Reduced Fire Hazard, requires that fabrics with a nap or pile shall have a surface burning time of 10 seconds or greater after being subjected to a standard washing procedure.
