Test Procedure Set Up
SCOPE
Method for determining horizontal burning rate of materials used in the occupant compartment of motor vehicles after exposure to a small flame.
TEST PROCEDURE
Material tested face downward or in most adverse position. Top of burner tube 19mm below centre of the bottom edge of the open end of the specimen. Burner height 38mm. Expose specimen to flame for 15 seconds.
Begin timing when flame from burning specimen reaches a point 40mm from the open end of the specimen.
Record the time taken for the specimen to burn 250mm or record time and distance until specimen extinguishes.
MATERIALS
Maximum length or width of specimen is 355 x 100mm.
Thickness up to 13mm, where it exceeds this cut down to uniform thickness of 13mm including face side.
Where cannot get flat specimen take from area of least curvature, removing layers but including face side.
AMOUNT NEEDED
Six (6) pieces 355 x 100mm (max) or if difference BETWEEN length and width then 6 each way.
or
Ask for piece of material 1m x 1metre.
