Soxhlet Apparatus With Specimen Being Extracted
APPLICATION
The method is applicable to textiles in all forms, (fibre, sliver or roving, yarn or fabric), provided that the textile is insoluble in the solvent selected.
DEFINITION
Solvent soluble matter is defined as non-fibrous material in or on yarn or fibre, usually of an oily or waxy nature, removable by organic solvents.
PRINCIPLE
The specimen is extracted in a Soxhlet apparatus using a selected solvent. The solvent is evaporated, the residue and specimen are then dried and weighed separately. The amount of solvent soluble matter is reported as a percentage of the extracted specimen mass.
SAMPLES REQUIRED FOR TESTING
Fibre or Yarn - sample at random from stock, cones or hanks to give two 10g specimens for each 1000kg in the consignment.
INTERPRETATION
The percentage figure quoted is the total amount of solvent soluable matter in the sampled tested.
SERVICE TARGET
6 working days.
COST
Two 10g specimens represent one test. For large jobs additional test fees will apply - refer Fee List.
