The Loop method is applicable to all types of carpets having a loop pile EXCEPT carpets the pile of which consists of bulked or stretched yarn.
PRINCIPLE
Tuft Method: Tufts extracted from the carpet are straightened singly, using a straight glass rod in V-shaped grooves in a transparent rigid block, and their lengths measured.
Loop Method: A length of yarn containing several loops is extracted from the carpet and its straightened length measured at a constant tension.
SAMPLES REQUIRED FOR TESTING
The sample and test specimens should be selected in accordance with the requirements of AS2119. A sample of 1 square metre is preferred but smaller sample may give an indication to the customer.
