Thickness Measuring Device - With Specimen Being Measured
APPLICATION
The method is applicable to all forms of textile floor coverings. Soft underlays of all types may also be measured.
PRINCIPLE
The thickness of a conditioned specimen of textile floor covering is measured as the distance between a reference plate on which the specimen rests and a parallel circular presser foot exerting a pressure of 2kPa (approximately 20g/sq.cm) area of defined size. Soft underlays are usually measured at a pressure of 1kPa. Thickness is expressed to the nearest 0.1mm.
SAMPLES REQUIRED FOR TESTING
A piece of floor covering approximately 500mm square. Where the floor covering has more than one thickness in the construction, all must be included in the sample piece.
INTERPRETATION
Thickness is usually included in the carpet specification. A tolerance of +/- 5% of nominal is usually acceptable.
