Using Fleece Measurement to Increase Farm Incomes

This Fact Sheet has been prepared from reports on a co-operative program involving Mr Ian McLachlan, the former Wool Task Force Chairman, Australian Wool Handlers, represented by Ms Kerry Hansford, and AWTA Ltd, represented by Mr Jim Marler.

Statements on the relative precision of the different technologies available for on-farm measurement of fibre fineness characteristics relate to the testing procedures recommended by the service suppliers who participated in the program. Precision relationships can be altered by varying the testing system, and in particular by measuring more than one sample.
