APVMA Registered Chemicals
The Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) is a Federal Government statutory authority established to centralise the registration of all agricultural and veterinary chemical products in the Australian marketplace.
The APVMA’s role is that of an industry regulator. It assesses applications from chemical companies and others for the registration of products for sale and determines if they are safe and fit for purpose. All commercial fly strike, lice and ectoparasite treatments for sheep must carry APVMA registration.
Accessing the APVMA product register:
The APVMA has an online product registration database which is freely available. Known as PUBCRIS (Public Chemical Registration Information System) it lists the commercial brand names of products along with their constituent chemicals and has links to images of the product labels so that their identity can be be verified. It is a useful tool through which to check for any restrictions in the use of commercial products on sheep. It can also be used to check if the active chemicals are on the list of those restricted by the European Union (see EU Eco-Label page )
