Data File Formats used in Fleece Measurement
As part of our standard Fleece Measurement Testing service, AWTA Ltd can provide the test data via Email as a file attachment. This is provided free of charge to all customers who write their Email address details on the Fleece Measurement Service Request form.
When the testing is completed, a paper copy of the results is posted and a data file emailed to the requestor. The email will have an attachment file name similar to MELFT6000195807.CSV. The first 3 characters indicate the AWTA Laboratory that conducted the testing, either “MEL" for Melbourne, “SYD” for Sydney or “FRE” for Fremantle. The next two numbers represent the type of testing requested, such that “60” contains Laserscan data (and Yield if requested) and “05” contains Length/Strength and Colour data. The last 8 numbers represent the unique AWTA Ltd Test Number under which the measurements were collated and reported (The Test Number should be quoted when making any inquiries).
The content of theses files is dependent on the type of testing requested. Normally the data file will contain all the raw test results that are printed on the accompanying paper report. Other measurements such as Length and Strength or Clean Colour are included in a second file. The data is provided as a simple ASCII text file in Comma Separated (CSV) format which can be easily imported into a spreadsheet program such as Microsoft Excel, most database applications including Ms Access or dBase, and commercial sheep breeding programs such as "Top Stud".
