Why is a DMFR Declaration being used in preference to an objective Dark and Medullated Fibre Test?
New testing technologies have been developed which have brought the cost of a Dark & Medullated Fibre (DMF) Guidance Test to just under $40.
However, while presale core-sampling provides a representative sample for Merino wool that has been in contact with exotic sheep or their crosses, it does not, provide a representative sample for isolated pigmentation and urine stain.
The DMFR scheme provides the only cost effective means of assessing the dark and medullated fibre risk for an individual sale lot from contact with exotics and from isolated pigmentation and urine stain.
