AWTA Ltd Services > What is a Premium Micron Test and what are the benefits?

What is a Premium Micron Test and what are the benefits?

For most woolgrowers, testing fibre diameter or 'Micron' using the IWTO Standard provides a precise and cost-efficient test result for commercial trading.

However, some woolgrowers, particularly those that produce premium, high value or specialty wools, want even greater precision when measuring fibre diameter.

The Premium Micron Test is provided to cater for woolgrowers seeking even greater precision.

The Service

The Premium Micron Testing service involves the testing of 12 specimens or three times the standard number of specimens.

IWTO Standard Micron:

4 test specimens measured

Premium Micron:

12 test specimens measured

It is available on both the LASERSCAN and OFDA100 instrumentation and is reserved for classed grower lots only. The Test may be requested through your selling agent - be sure to mention it when you indicate your testing requirements.

The Benefits

  • Improved precision for Mean Fibre Diameter - the major determinant of the value of wool.
  • Precision improvements also in

o        CVD

o        Fibre Curvature

o        Comfort Factor

  • Increased confidence for woolgrowers when selling their wool.
  • Further product differentiation for marketing groups, QA groups, grower alliances, etc.
  • A potential marketing edge for these wools.
