Is there a test for lice?

AWTA Ltd once provided a detection test for lice but this is no longer available.

The Lice Detection Test involved looking for the shells of the lice in the Vegetable Matter. This was an indicative test that was intended solely as an aid to examination of the sheep.

There may soon be more reliable chemical test available, which can be conducted on-farm during shearing.  The testing technology exists and it is extremely sensitive as it targets particular chemicals produced by the lice themselves.  The major hurdle in making the test commercial is the availability of a commercial partner willling to to produce the test kits.
