How much sample do I need for a Test Report?
This depends upon the testing required.
For Yield, Micron and VM Base it is important to provide at least 350 grams, sufficient for a minimum of two subsamples. It is even more crucial that all bales are sampled, and sampled equally, using an appropriate core sampling implement.
For Length and Strength testing a minimum of around two kilograms is required. Again the sampling is crucial. The sample must consist of full length wool (core samples cannot be used) and the sample must be taken so that it is representative of the bales involved. Normally this is very difficult to achieve on-farm, unless the sampling occurs during packing of the bales or while the wool is still in the bin.
