Can I get Certified results when wool is in shed?
Certified results for Yield & Micron can be obtained when the wool is still on-farm but only if specific requirements are met.
- An AWTA Ltd sampling officer must be present;
- Certified (by Weights & Measures) scales must be available; and
- Each bale must be presented so that the samples can be obtained according to the IWTO Specifications.
Certified results for Length & Strength cannot be provided unless suitable mechanical grab sampling equipment is available.
Furthermore, if the wool is to be sold via the AWEX auction system the shed must be registered with AWEX as a sampling site.
In practice these requirements make on-farm certification impractical.It is much simpler to submit samples for Report testing. This does limit selling options, but Report Tests are often used when both the buyer and seller agree to an exchange of ownership on this basis.
Contact the nearest AWTA Ltd office for further advice if you wish to pursue this approach.
